It’s all in the name

Go it’s all about transport
All all types of transport
Electric powered only by electricity

All electric… no hybrid engines here, just ‘all electric’ modes of transport.

So… we’re not just a car site. If we’re going to save the world (that’s a collective ‘we’), pretty much all modes of transport have to wean themselves off fossil fuels – cars, bikes, trucks, boats, planes, trains – everything. So we will be covering it all.

Although we have a .com domain name, we’re based in Australia (Brisbane, Queensland) and we’d specifically like to encourage Australia to go all electric (even though the country might be a little behind the eight ball right now).

We’re also a little disappointed with some of the better known car brands for seemingly not wanting to be a part of the (r)evolution – no names no pack drill.

Finally… we’d also love for Australia to have its own vehicle industry again (all electric of course) and for it to source way more of its energy from renewable sources. Is that too much to ask?

There’s plenty of sun here, and plenty of space after all.

David Bateson
Editor

David cut his automotive teeth in the UK where he started out in a Triumph Herald and moved on to a Renault 5 (both his mum’s old cars). Many years later he inherited his dad’s previous car – a Lancia Beta HPE and, when he finally got a proper job and was offered a company car, simply bought a car magazine and searched for the fastest car he could get for the budget.

That was an Alfa Romeo 33 16v. When he swapped jobs he used the same approach and got a turbocharged 1.4L FIAT Punto GT. Noticing a bit of a trend, when he showed up in Australia and noticed very few Italian cars on the roads – apart from old ones and a few top end ones – he set up italiancar.com.au for a bit of fun and also to find a market for some FIAT Coupes he wanted to import from the UK (which he never did).

Thanks to the ItalianCar project David has been privileged to drive (and be driven in) some pretty fast cars over the years.

His interest in electric cars started when he read the performance figures – especially the acceleration time – of the Tesla S when it came out. Since then more practical concerns like how to reduce the world’s greenhouse gas emissions have convinced him that all electric is the only way to go – for all types of transport.

He can’t help but feel that the Italian car manufacturers he was (and still is, in a way) such a big fan of are letting the side down a bit on the electrification of their models. He’s hoping that future Italian EV models will be as sporty and sexy as the original petrol ones were, when he can cover them again …on this site.
